The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

I recently had the opportunity to see the second installment in the Chronicles of Narnia movies; Prince Caspian. These movies are truly amazing and wonderful movies. Every time I think about them I get butterflies in my stomach because I just love them so much. It’s easy to see why I love them, action, adventure, people our age saving the world and mostly just downright fun. It’s not all fun and games though for Prince Caspian the movie has a very serious undertone. Narnia has become very dark and savage place since the Penvensies have left a year ago, but for Narnia it has been 1300 years later. Enough time for the Narnian creatures to be obsolete and for the old Narnia to be nothing but a legend. The children are struggling, especially the two eldest, because the last time they were in Narnia they had been kings and queens and men and women, not children. And where is Aslan in all this? They are starting to lose faith in him and what he can do.

These movies just give you a warm feeling inside and unlike the Harry Potter Movies, these movies complement the books in what the add and what they take away. Most likely because C.S Lewis’ stepson Douglas Gresham is the co-producer of the films. What I’m not such a fan of is that everyone thinks that The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe is the first book and Prince Caspian the second when in actuality The Lion, The witch and The Wardrobe is the second book and Prince Caspian the fourth.  But it is really a small price to pay in comparison to these fantastic movies. And the fact that it’s attached to Disney. I love Disney, the place and most of their movies but their television station has produced stars such as Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus, Ashley Tisdale (and the rest of the gang from high school musical), I mean come on most of these people

don’t add much to the entertainment world accept for gossip. BUT that is besides the point these movies are amazing.

The End of the Road

I wanted highshool to end the day I started it. And of course it felt a billion years away. But now that it’s coming closer it feels even further away. like these last couple weeks will never end and I’ll be stuck in it forever. Now don’t get me wrong I don’t hate high school just to hate high school, I gave it a chance year after year thinking it will get better… but it never did. When I think about being finished high school I really can’t even imagine what it will feel like. It’s like in 6th book of the chronicles of Narnia when Eustace and Jill get trapped under the ground in Underworld and everyone around them keeps saying that there is no sun and no sky and they try to hold on to their faith, but they almost can’t believe anymore that there is even a Narnia. And then finally they burst through the ground and there it is thesky and the stars and Narnia. I think it’s gonna feel like that. I’m not being over dramatic, really I’m not.
You know at the end of the year how they give out all the awards for best grades, best school contribution, student leader etc. I wish they had an award for surviving the worst years of your life. Because while all the other students were achieving, you just wanted to curl up in a ball. I know a lot of people feel like that about high school and a lot of people don’t. Some people are sad to be leaving and scared. Right now I’m impatient, I’ve been waiting for it for soo long and it’s so close yet it feels so far away.

Blogging

Considering that we only have one more month to blog, I am prepared to do one big push for the ending. Well, I guess I should say I was prepared. Now that I am actually sitting down to write I am so uninspired and I am wondering how the heck am I going to do a ton of blogs this month when I can’t think of a thing to write about. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Maybe I’ll try again tomorrow.

I’m a little bit in love with… John Krasinski

A couple weekends ago I went to see a movie with my sister called Leatherheads. It looked a bit funny and like it might be good. Well the truth is we really only wanted to see John Krasinski on a big screen. The movie was the biggest flop of a movie I have ever seen. George Clooneydirected and starred in it which made me sad because I’m normally such a big George Clooney Fan (especially Michael Clayton) but John Krasinski was the only good thing about that movie. If you watch The Office than you’ll know him as the Character of Jim Halpert and you know his amazing talent at comedy. There is on scene in the movie where John K. gets extremely drunk and the conforts George Clonney it is hilarious, unfortunately it only lasted about 10 minutes. The rest of the movie was boring, but I was so happy to see him up on the big screen. If you know me well you’ll know that my two big celebrity crushes are John Krasinski and James McAvoy. If you want to see the best couple on tv watch the office. Which is hilarous and awesome. A little bit quirky like arrested developement but one that you’ll regret not watching while it’s still on air (like how I regret not watching Arrested Developement while it lasted.) Anyway…. I love John Krasinski.

Go Green! (please)

Happy Earth Day Everyone!

I hope you all did something to celebrate the earth today and help protect it. Since it is Earth Day I want to post an article that I wrote on ways to go green. Hope it inspires you to treat everyday like it’s Earth Day.

Everyday we live our normal lives, go to school, do homework, hang out with friends, but what if we could save the world everyday. Global warming is a serious issue, but we are only so big and don’t really have enough money to get solar panels on our roofs, so how do we deal with this problem. I wanted to find some simple changes I could make in my everyday life. So I set out to find some answers, I know what global warming is and does but now I want to know what I can do other than buying compact fluorescent bulbs and planting a tree. Here are a few simple tips on going green everyday.

           

Wear your heart on your sleeve. Being environmentally conscious is the first step in protecting our environment, but it’s not enough to stay there, you have to spread the word and act it out. I love to see shirts that say ‘The future is green,’ or ‘save our planet,’ etc. because it’s so important to get the message out there, but you can go even further than that, you can literally wear the message. Many companies have come out with environmentally friendly clothing such as Levi’s organic cotton jeans, the eco- friendly collections at Cotton Ginny and Roots and any Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) products. Next time you’re shopping for clothes make sure you look at the labels and pick ‘natural’ fibres (instead of synthetic) such as wool, silk and linen. The best natural fibres are bamboo, hemp, soy and organic cotton (which is different from just plain cotton), but those are much harder to find. Never buy cotton! It takes a third of a pound of chemical fertilizers and pesticides to produce the cotton for one T-shirt! But don’t throw out the cotton clothes you already have because that would just generate unnecessary waste. Never throw away your clothes, always donate them to thrift stores or even exchange them with your friends.

           

Make the green choice.  Many things we do in our everyday life are always consistent; we always shower, wash our hands, wash our clothes and if you are female wear cosmetics (even if it’s just lip balm) and use facial products. These everyday things are so important and persistent in our lives that choosing greener products seems obvious. I have found the ultimate brand in cleaning and saving the earth. Method. They sell hand wash, body wash, all purpose cleaners and more. They’re formulas contain only biodegradable ingredients, they’re packaging is recycled plastic and it’s available at Shoppers Drug Mart. So now that your body and counter are clean, its time to move on to your clothes. The most important thing to remember about washing your clothes is use the lowest temperature possible. Choose phosphate-free and biodegradable detergents and line dry as much as possible, also treat stains quickly with non-toxic removers. Now for our environmentally aware strong female; the cosmetics you buy can really affect the environment. Some products that are great for our earth and skin are: Burt’s Bee, the contents are biodegradable and the packaging is recycled and can be recycled. Kiss My Face uses organic ingredients and is biodegradable and it can be found at any natural food store. Last but not least the Healing Garden skin organics line, organic ingredients that are great for your skin. Last tip for the females, don’t use disposable razors, 2 billion disposable razors end up in landfills each year in the U.S. alone. In every product, from cosmetics to cleaning supplies look for a certified label such as the Eco-Cert label as well as the USDA Organic seal.

           

Now that you know how to shop smart, you can start living every day greener, simply and easily. Green is easy; there is no excuse not to change. So next time you run out of hand wash soap, you know what to do, make the green choice and when your buying clothes, just wear your heart on your sleeve. It feels great knowing that your simple everyday acts are helping keep the planet cleaner. The tools are out there we just have to be smart and use them.

The Twitch Factor

Have you ever noticed the amount of people who have the leg twitch?Next time you are in a classroom look around and notice how many peoples legs can’t stop dancing, shaking, tapping or jiggling. But mostly you’ll only really notice it when someone in front of you or behind you doing it and shaking your desk. I think it’s pretty damn apparent why we do this: one word, stress. We’re all so maxed out on homework and essay and our own personal bullshit/ dramas that when we are asked to sit still and listen or sit still and work all of that nervous stressful energy come it in a single leg twitch. And most of the time it’s so uncontrollable and subconscious that when the person in front or behind you turns around and gives you that look or asks you politely to stop, you sit there almost shocked, but after a few minutes it passes and you go back to normal and it starts up again, you can’t even help it. So next time you notice you are twitching take a deep breath and try to relax, turning stress into relaxation. And have some sympathy for the twitcher that’s shaking your desk.

Spring and Conformity?

Spring is my favourite season. The air feels clean and crisp with a touch of warmth. The flowers are blooming and finally, finally after months of greys and whites, there is colour. For me with spring always comes a new wardrobe. Bringing out the shorts and t- shirts, skirts and dresses and buying something new that makes you feel as fresh as the weather. When I went shopping for the first time since the sun starting shining I was immediately on the prowl for something fun and fabulous, that would make me feel like being outside and dancing and flowers and ultimately like spring itself. I found the perfect dress, a pale blue with a full skirt, that made me feel excellent. So the day before getting my wisdom teeth out I decided to wear this beautiful dress to school. I got compliments, but I also got the typical “what is that girl wearing?” which I promptly responded to with “I’m wearing a dress.” (which took the girl quite by surprise). But it got me thinking about what we wear and why. I’m a firm believer that our clothes are a reflection of who we are or who we want to be, our secret hopes and desire worn on our sleeves subtly. So it makes sense that when someone insults what your wearing it becomes more personal than that. I wore that dress to feel light and pretty and someone wearing black sweatpants decided that I shouldn’t feel like that. I guess I just wish that people were more accepting. All most people want to do is be accepted for who they are, all of who they are. I’m not really sure where I’m going with this except to say that putting yourself out there and not doing what everyone else is, whether that be wearing different clothes, admitting that your gay, or choosing your friends wisely, it is scary. And I think people need to acknowledge that more. Because lets face, highschool is all about doing what everyone else is doing, trying to fit in. As someone whos never fit in, never did what everyone else was doing, and always thought for herself, I want to applaud those people who go everyday moving in the opposite direction, who face hordes of people that look down on them for not being like everyone else. You are the brave ones.

The Neverending Election

A couple weeks ago there was a huge out roar because Barack Obama’s pastor said some comments about the election, Hilary, race, etc. And apparently it was unpatriotic. Maybe it was I haven’t heard it all, but what pisses me off is how many people freak out over the littlest things. It just feels like everyone always blows everything out of proportion. This whole election is blown out of proportion I am so sick of it. The election probably isn’t going to happen until the summer yet it’s already been going on for months. Barack, Hilary, Hilary, Barack. Just have the friken Democratic leader vote already! If people haven’t made up their minds by now then they are pretty much daft because every time you turn on the news there is Hilary, or Barack. Apparently the other guy is too old to really have that much attention. And they’re on talk shows too Ellen, and The View. AHHHH!! STOP! It just sucks that all the good T.V is American so I have to watch the channels and then commercials for the news is on more often. I just want this election to be over. Maybe it’s taking so long because people want to be sure that they don’t vote for the next George Bush.
